FAQs

  • Therapy is a professional relationship focusing on treating problematic behaviors and emotional experiences while enhancing your overall functioning. There are many different therapeutic approaches and interventions, and what works for one person may not work for someone else. At Standpoint, we tailor your therapy experience to fit your individual needs and goals. What we work on in therapy will be defined in your first session where we identify your concerns and collaboratively create goals.

  • Frequency of appointments will be determined collaboratively in your first session. Frequency of appointments will be determined by your personal needs and goals.

  • Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship and it is very important that as a client you feel safe to share openly to get the most benefit from your sessions. There are some specific limitations to confidentiality that we will discuss in detail in your first session and are listed below:
-When the client poses an imminent danger to themselves or others, and breaking confidentiality is necessary to resolve the danger
-when the therapist suspects child, elder, or dependent adult abuse or neglect

-when the client has directed the therapist to share information about their case and signs a written consent form
-when the therapist receives a qualifying court order.

  • Before your first session you will be sent forms to review and sign. During our first session we will review these forms to clarify any questions you may have. We will also explore your reasons for seeking treatment, concerns you may have about the process, and identify specific goals for our time together. First sessions are 50-60 minutes in length.
